2019 Small Business Person of the Year
Owner of Tasteful Thoughts
I worked in Television for 30 years and chocolate was my hobby. When I met my husband, he wanted me to open a chocolate store. I finally quit NBC6 almost 4 years ago to see if my hobby could turn into my career and it did. When we started looking for storefronts, I met the ladies from GLAM first and was so impressed by them that we decided on the Timberlake Plaza. Everything felt right and I’ve never regretted my decision. The first thing I did after signing the lease was to call the Davie-Cooper City Chamber and I talked to Nikki. Nikki gave me great advice on networking and being a business owner that I still think about today. Joining the Davie-Cooper City Chamber has given me the opportunity to meet people in all wakes of life, but has really enabled me to make some real, true friends. I know the Chamber prides itself on networking and giving back to the community, but to me, it has allowed me to talk to other business owners, share my frustration and joy, ask questions that other small business owners would know, and be around people who know how hard it is to start up a business. I never felt I was alone. Since Day One everyone I met has been there with advice, support, help, encouragement and friendship. The feeling of family in this Chamber is overwhelming. That’s why I love the Davie-Cooper City Chamber of Commerce and why this award is so meaningful to me. It’s not only an award from my Chamber, it’s an award from my friends who truly believe in me, acknowledge what I do and genuinely want me to succeed. None of this would be possible without my family’s support. My husband has always been by my side encouraging me, helping me and being mom and dad to our kids so I can work, network and volunteer. My kids work in the store and understand that our lives have changed, but I’m still there for them. It’s been an adjustment, but I think they are dealing with it better than I am. I am blessed, grateful and still totally in shock. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
